The summer heat begins to ease, but the Mediterranean remains warm, terraces stay busy and Alicante enters one of the most enjoyable months of its cultural calendar. September 2026 brings together traditional neighbourhood festivals, concerts by the harbour, local food and wine events, sporting challenges and exhibitions.

Is the weather good in Alicante in September?
According to AEMET climate normals for 1991–2020, Alicante has an average September temperature of 23.5°C. Average daytime highs reach 28.5°C, while average overnight lows remain around 18.5°C. The city also receives approximately 250 hours of sunshine during the month.

One important detail: September’s higher rainfall total does not mean constant wet weather. Rain usually arrives in a small number of concentrated Mediterranean storms, so a long run of dry days can be followed by a brief but intense downpour.
Can you still go to the beach in September?
Absolutely. Many locals actually prefer September to August. The Mediterranean Sea remains pleasantly warm, with an average water temperature of around 25–26°C and even higher readings often recorded at the beginning of the month.
Postiguet, San Juan, La Albufereta, Almadraba and Urbanova are all excellent choices for swimming. Once the August holiday rush begins to fade, it also becomes easier to find space on the sand and enjoy the seafront at a slower pace.
September 2026 follows an especially hot summer. By the end of August, experts from the University of Alicante’s Climatology Laboratory were reporting Mediterranean temperatures close to 29°C during the summer. As a result, the sea is particularly warm at the beginning of September.
What to pack for Alicante in September
There is no need to pack for autumn. T-shirts, dresses, shorts and lightweight footwear are suitable during the day. A light extra layer may be useful on evenings towards the end of the month.

September is one of the best months for a day trip from Alicante to Tabarca Island. Tourist boat services continue until 30 September, and astronomical observation experiences remain available into October.
With less extreme heat than August, warm water and a slightly quieter island, it is difficult to imagine a better combination.

Yes. In all the ways that matter, it still feels like summer. You can swim, eat beside the sea and spend a long evening on a terrace.
At the same time, Alicante begins to settle into a different rhythm. Neighbourhood festivals, local wine, food events, concerts, exhibitions and sporting events return to the calendar. The weather is more comfortable for walking, and you can combine beach time with city sightseeing without having to choose between them.
